Ready for a change. Need a New Deal.
I keep telling myself ‘It has to get better.’. Even if our policies involved plastering issues and random suggestions on a wall and throwing darts blindfolded from 20 paces, we couldn’t do as bad as the last 8 years. I’m sure it took a lot of conscious though and heavy thinking to paint ourselves so thoroughly into a corner. I know there’s no way for Obama to find a way out that doesn’t stick us into another corner.
His first Hundred Days are up. People I work with (clearly republicans.) are whinging that Obama hasn’t fixed the problem. Nevermind that you can’t define the situation we’re in as a single problem. We have a long string of problems that a lot of people are blaming the banks alone for. The banks lent the money, yes. (Bad banks, bad. No pie for you.) I place a lot of the blame on the American People, especially the ones selling houses at ridiculous prices, and even more-so on the people that got the loans and bought them.
I’m in South Florida, and was evicted a few years back when my apartment decided they would rather “convert” our apartments into Condos. Now, instead of getting $800-$1400 per month for each apartment in rent, they would be selling the Condos for $300,000.00 each. Six months later, the apartments were clearly not ‘converted’ as the big ugly stickers a roommate put on their window were still there. The prices were down to $160,000.00, and there were only 2 suckers that had moved-in.
The rent on the house we moved into (couldn’t find an apartment, since so many were undergoing Condo Conversions) was ridiculously high and painful. When the lease was up, we asked if it could be lowered due to declining conditions. The guy declined, figuring to milk us for as long as he could. We left. The house stayed empty for 4 months or so, until he lowered the rent to what we had asked for.
So many people doing those ‘Make millions in Real Estate’ courses or whatever. Working in Tech Support, around 40% of the floor was failed Real Estate agents. “I’m just working here until the market picks-up again.” . . . that type.
Anyway, I’m rambling. My point is that I can’t keep on topic when my insomnia is kickin’. That, and we, as a nation, are screwed because we are generally stupid, and easily led to destruction. My voice is lonely but hopefully, enough lonely voices will sound a wake-up call.
